Looking back on Making Love, it is difficult to remember what a groundbreaking movie it was. By today's standards it is tame, and a bit slow. But when it was released in 1982, it was one of the first times a gay couple was so directly portrayed on screen. Harry Hamlin and Michael Ontkean were brave to take on these roles, and both claim their careers were effected to varying degree's due to taking on the roles. Doing these roles in 1982 was a far bigger move than Heath and Jake. It is an important mark in the history of gay themed movies.
